Real Solutions

A Real Chance for Change

These big corporate lovin' political parties with their back benching MP’s only benefit CEOs, and it’s time to break the cycle. As your NDP representative I will work hard for a worker-based economy in Canada that delivers for this riding. I’m fighting for jobs with a future, homes for growing families, healthcare that works, a secure retirement, and safer communities.

Better Jobs

Fair wages and worker protections mean building a future where every Canadian can count on fair pay, time to care for their health, and a voice at work. Whether it's fighting for paid sick leave or stronger bargaining rights, I believe that work should provide stability, dignity, and a pathway to opportunity.

I’ve been running a shop in Nelson for over 10 years and I know that my employees are the backbone of our communities. I will make sure entrepreneurs have the resources they need to recover and grow - creating better jobs and keeping our neighbourhoods thriving.

More Homes

Canada is in the middle of a housing crisis, and people are being priced out of their communities. Over the next decade the NDP will deliver 500,000 affordable units, helping families put down roots and ensuring that our young people can share in the dream of owning their first home; without being crushed by debt.

I’ve spent the last six years at the local government level pushing for solutions to the housing crisis. We’ve worked hard to plan, review policies, and turn ideas into action: building non-market, purpose-built rentals that keep housing affordable for everyday people.

Renters deserve stability, not uncertainty, and what’s good for the renters is good for the small business economy.

Nationally we need take on corporate profiteering to protect affordable housing for everyone. By preventing corporations from treating homes like the stock market, and limiting speculative buying, we’ll make sure housing is for Canadians, not balance sheets.

Expanded Healthcare

Universal Pharmacare means never having to choose between groceries and the medications you need. With a national, public program, I fight to make prescriptions affordable and accessible, so no one is left behind.

Expanding Medicare builds on Canada and the NDP’s proud legacy of public health care. By adding dental care, vision care, mental health services, and prescriptions, I fight to ensure everyone has access to the care they need, when they need it.

I am proud of our new dental care plan, which is already helping families afford the care they need. No one should have to suffer in pain or skip dental visits because of cost. I will keep pushing to expand and strengthen this program so every Canadian gets the help they need.

Secure Retirement

A secure retirement isn’t a privilege, it’s a promise. By strengthening CPP and OAS, we can make sure every retiree can count on stable and sufficient income to enjoy their later years with dignity.

I will stand to protect workplace pensions so workers don’t lose what they’ve earned. No one should worry about losing their savings to corporate mismanagement or bankruptcy - I will make pensions are a priority.

Service and Accountability

For too long, representation in our region has been more focused on partisan battles and finger-pointing than on delivering real solutions. Rob Morrison has failed to visit councils in the area, barely travels to events outside of Cranbrook, and continues to make empty promises while deflecting blame on others. This kind of representation leaves residents without the support they need and deserve. That’s not what being a member of parliament should be about.

I am committed to rebuilding our constituency services so residents of the Columbia Kootenays can easily access the federal programs and services they are entitled to. My priority is helping people in our communities identify and resolve issues, whether it’s accessing benefits, dealing with federal agencies, or addressing local concerns. It’s time to put the focus back on service, accountability, and making federal representation work for the people.

Safer Communities

Nelson, with the oldest police department in the province, has been on the forefront of the addiction and poverty crisis. Everyone deserves to feel safe at home and to walk in their neighbourhood.

We have to tackle the root causes of crime and addiction by investing in mental health care, addiction treatment, and harm reduction. We must fight the opioid crisis as a public health emergency, expanding resources and reducing stigma to save lives.

But for prolific offenders, I think we have to balance accountability with rehabilitation to break cycles of re-offending and keep communities secure.

“Keith Page has been at the centre of this collaboration because he is a Nelson City Councillor, an RDCK board member (representing Nelson) and the Chair of the - Recreation Commission - which oversees recreation in Nelson and neighbouring electoral areas E and F. He agrees with Chirico that new kinds of collaboration are needed in order to fund affordable housing.“ - Bill Metcalfe
